Μια μέρα σαν τη σημερινή, στον μαραθώνιο των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων του 1908 ο Ιταλός ζαχαροπλάστης Dorando Pietri από το Carpi, μπαίνει πρώτος στο γήπεδο White City του Λονδίνου. Παραπατά αφυδατωμένος, ένας ζωντανός νεκρός. Πέφτει, σηκώνεται, ξαναπέφτει, ξανασηκώνεται. Τερματίζει, πρώτος. Ωστόσο, χρυσό μετάλλιο δεν θα πάρει ποτέ…..
