Την επιμονή των δημάρχων της δυτικής πλευράς του πολεοδομικού συγκροτήματος Θεσσαλονίκης στην κατασκευή του νέου διεθνούς εκθεσιακού κέντρου στη Σίνδο, με ταυτόχρονη μετατροπή της έκτασης των 175 στρεμμάτων της σημερινής ΔΕΘ σε Μητροπολιτικό Πάρκο, ανέδειξε μιλώντας στον 102 FM της ΕΡΤ3 ο δήμαρχος Αμπελοκήπων – Μενεμένης Λάζαρος Κυρίζογλου. Όπως είπε το αίτημα για επιστροφή στον σχεδιασμό του 2009 είναι ηθικό, δίκαιο και λογικό, , ενώ χαρακτήρισε ως περιβαλλοντικό λάθος τη σημερινή επιλογή της διοίκησης της ΔΕΘ – Helexpo για τη διπλή ανάπλαση του εκθεσιακού κέντρου, τόσο για εκθεσιακές χρήσεις, όσο και ως Μητροπολιτικό Πάρκο.
